Passcode: rebirth

When Suzanne Clores heard that Audrey Niffeneger had plans to renovate the Harley Clarke Mansion into the Artists Book House, an audio project began to take shape in her mind: lakefront wind, echoing footsteps. After nearly 100 years of existence and three strange layers of stewardship, the Harley Clarke mansion evoked many emotions upon walkthrough for Clores: awe, wonder and most overwhelmingly, unease. This glorious estate, once electrified with vision, promise, and art, felt dead; filled with rubble but also raw possibility. A social and cultural miracle could bring it back to life. Clores thought. She hopes an Extraordinary Project podcast episode about the Harley Clarke House’s rebirth can be part of that miracle.

Suzanne Clores is a memoirist and podcast producer. Her book, Memoirs of a Spiritual Outsider (Conari, 2000) is a personal quest to experience alternative spiritual practices from around the world, and her 2021 Webby Award Honored podcast, The Extraordinary Project, is a docu-style podcast about our attraction to and questions about extraordinary phenomena.
