Artists Book House Hires K.R. Fowler as Program Assistant

I’m delighted to introduce the ABH community to our new Program Assistant, K. R. Fowler, who joins us after having worked as Assistant Director and then Interim Director of Art at Epiphany Center for the Arts. We’ve been working together for less than a month, and already their contributions have been a tremendous boon–both to the organization and to me.

K. R. is busy implementing the ABH Around Town pop-up workshop series and our Curious Conversations series–with our first panel, Book Arts in Chicago: Past, Present, Future taking place on October 5th. They’re also focusing on marketing and social media strategies. Come out and meet them (along with members of our Board) at Printers Row Lit Fest on September 9-10 or at Print Jam (with me) on October 21!

We’re feeling particularly fortunate to welcome K. R. to our staff, as they’ve worked across the art world in a variety of capacities: administrator, curator, preparator, art devotee. At Epiphany, K. R. focused on curating and executing exhibitions with Chicago-based artists of diverse mediums, experiences, and backgrounds. Previously, they worked with the Wabash Arts Corridor and the Department of Exhibition and Performance Spaces out of Columbia College Chicago, juried the 2022 Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition, and served as a site supervisor for the 2022 cohort of the RE-TOOL 21 program.

A multi-disciplinary artist with a focus in painting and narrative work, K. R.'s work explores identity and the concept of self within the broader context of culture and is informed by the ongoing research and study of religion, feminism, philosophy, history, and beyond. They have exhibited their work in Houston and Chicago and are a recipient of the 2021 Aiko Nakane fellowship and the 2022 Albert P. Weisman award.

Welcome, K. R.. And, our deepest gratitude to the anonymous donor who has funded this position, enabling them to join our growing team.

For the love of books,

Deborah
