Artist and Papermaker Amy Jacobs with Jamie Thome

On 25 June, 2020 we visited our friend Amy Jacobs, Co-Director of Artistic Projects and Master Collaborator at Dieu Donné in NYC.

Amy received her MFA in Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts from Columbia College Chicago and studied for two years at Penland School of Craft as part of the Core Fellowship Program. She has been part of the Dieu Donné studio team since 2010.

She has taught and led workshops at institutions including Yale University, the Museum of Modern Art, the New York Public Library, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.

Using a textile-based exploration of imagery, her own work embraces traditional and experimental paper making techniques, as well as book arts and installation.

We spoke with her about Dieu Donne, collaborating with visiting artists, and the distinct joy of having a job that requires that she spend time in the studio every single day, getting wet and making paper.
