About the Workshop
In this workshop, students will develop unique landscapes, specifically cityscapes, out of collaged images. This class will start with a presentation on the work of several collage artists, including Wangechi Mutu and Romare Bearden to help inspire students.
After the presentation we will warm up and begin developing landscapes with a perspective drawing exercise. The final portion of the workshop will be students working on their individual collages as the instructor helps to guide them, and will end will a group share of everyones work.
Supplies will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks or collage supplies if they have a specific idea they would like to work on.
About Maria Mariottini
Maria Mariottini holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied with Karl Wirsum, Ray Yoshida, Joan Flasch, and many others.
Mariottini worked as a Photo Stylist and Educational Book Designer for many years. During that time, she founded the non-profit Bucktown Fine Arts, with the goal to have a curated Art Event with diverse works become a part of the community. The events she help found are still ongoing in the community.
For her Masters of Educations at DePaul, she partnered with the Wicker Park Gardens to hold adult art classes using the garden as inspiration - these classes continue to grow and are now held every quarter.
