Artists Book House is pleased to extend our regular Evanston Bound programming with our Special Editions! Evanston Bound features studio tours and artist's talks/conversations with artists, writers, artist's book publishers, librarians, and other bookish friends.
Our Special Editions support our goal to present our community with regular, fascinating conversations with artists, writer, and change makers.
This effort also allows us too deepen our connection to our community, both here in Evanston and all around the globe.
For this Special Edition, Jamie Thome spoke with writer and illustrator Pam Smy. Ms. Smy has illustrated folktales, chapter books, nursery rhyme collections, picture books and novels. She has had 18 years of art school teaching and lecturing experience and, over this time, has developed an understanding of how to nurture creative process and work through ideas with illustrators; recently she set up Orange Beak Studio with fellow book-creators, Maisie Paradise and Ness Wood. She has a passion for observational drawing and sketchbooks.
Her books have been published in UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Denmark & Israel, and her work is soon to be published in Russia, Latin America, China, Vietnam, France & Brazil.
Her graphic novel Thornhill, published in 2018, became an instant classic, and was nominated for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, the CILIP Greenaway Medal, the Leeds Book Awards, and the Oxfordshire Book Award.
