Writer and Editor Howard Simmons with Jamie Thome
On 01 October 2020, we kicked off ABH's first annual A House, Haunted month with writer Howard Simmons.
Howard completed his MFA at Columbia College Chicago. While in grad school, he co-founded Goreyesque, an online literary journal inspired by the art of Edward Gorey. He currently lives in Ferguson, Missouri, where he works as a writer and editor for a senior living company. Previously, he worked as an obituary writer and copy editor for Gannett. His stories and articles have appeared in Hair Trigger, HyperText Magazine, and other publications.
Additionally, we're pleased to feature one of Howard's short stories as this month's Verses + Vingettes weekly newsletter serial---the story is supremely creepy and fascinating, and, with its accompanying illustrations by Joseph Lappie, it is the perfect thing for our first annual A House, Haunted Verses + Vignettes.Join us on Thursday as we talk with Howard about how people of all ages connect through stories, what it means to be a writer these days, and the complicated real life truths one can tell through the lens of ghost stories and horror.
