Visual Artist Liese Ricketts with Jamie Thome
On September 10th, we talked with visual artist Liese Ricketts. Liese Ricketts is an artistic Jackie-of-Many-Trades. After earning an MFA from SAIC, she pursued her own photographic work as she taught photo at the Lab Schools at the University of Chicago for 26 years.
For the last 17 years she has been creating handmade books, 6 of which are part of the Joan Flasch permanent book collection at SAIC. More recently, she has begun working with assemblage and collage, which she will share in her Quarantour. Liese says, “Making books led me to assemblage, as it is a very natural extension. Once I was told to stick to a single thing in art so my brand would be recognizable and remembered by curators. As I do not make my work for curators or buyers, I threw that annoying suggestion into the bin.” You can see more of her work at http://www.deadphoto.com.
