A GOREYESQUE OPEN HOUSE
Artists Book House has received a Community Development Grant from the City of Chicago! This enables us to replace the roof and to renovate the facade of our beloved home in the Old Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago.
After the architects toiled over the blueprints, and much documentation was uploaded into the aether, a crack team of workmen completed construction just before winter set in. To celebrate our good fortune, the 100th birthday of Edward Gorey, and the upcoming holidays, we have decided to host an Open House at Artists Book House.
“We shall regale our guests with tales of woe and light refreshments,” said the author who felt inspiration coming.
“We shall bind those guests to our cause,” the bookbinder replied with a menacing glint in her eyes.
“We shall invite them to take classes!” declared the printmaker from underneath his bushy mustache.
“We shall ask them for more money to renovate our studios!” the papermaker cried. She was eyed suspiciously by the others.
“We shall display examples of artists' books,” whispered the librarian.
“And of course, we will sell some posters and swag," said the bookseller.
“Will the event be free and open to the public?” asked the chorus.
“Why yes!” the gaggle replied. “But donations are always welcome!”
And thus, you are invited to attend:
